Central Regional Championships: Juniors Qualify 9 boats for Youth Nationals

The Central Regional Championships, held on May 9,  is the qualification regatta for the US Rowing Youth National Championships.  The region includes Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.  For some of our rowers this is a stepping-stone to the national championships and for others an opportunity to gain more race experience.  Our team accomplished all of our goals for the season at this regatta!  Our priority qualification boats all took 1st place:

Girls lightweight 2x (Katie Gilbert and Heather House)
Boys varsity 2x (Forrest Compton and Jake Martens)
Girls varsity 2x (Sara Hyten and Allison Talbot)
Girls varsity pair (Susan Bartoletti and Ariel Alverez)
Girls varsity 4x (Gabby Fleming, Marie Claire Serou, Heather House, and Erin Leddy)

Our team also qualified 2 girls singles, the girls varsity 8+ and the girls varsity 4+.

In the non-qualifying events our JV and novice rowers finished the season strong.  Dylan Quiqley finished 3rd in the 16 and under single.  The boys novice quad has been gaining speed all spring and finished with their highest placement of the year at 3rd.  The novice girls eight concluded the season undefeated winning the eight race in a close battle with the Tulsa Juniors.  They also would finish 3rd in the novice 4x.

Congratulations to all ARC juniors for a fine season.  Thank you to the Austin Rowing Club for their continued support of the juniors program and all junior teams in the region.
