Juniors Ranked 6th in the Nation

The ARC Juniors finished the season at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 11-13.  Four boats qualified from the Central Regional Championship for the opportunity to compete against 163 other teams from across the nation.

The lightweight girls had a great weekend with a 6th place finish in the lightweight 2x and 11th place finish in the lightweight four.  Veteran rower Nikki Ulug stroked the lightweight double to a strong win in the petite final for an overall ranking of 6th in the nation.  She was joined by Brett Mele at bow and in her second appearance in the event.  The lightweight four was coxed by Avery Ashwill, and rowed by Ellen Denum, Lucy Ellis, Mariel Dempster, and Nikki Ulug.  Each race for the lightweight four was better than the race before as they found their rhythm and peaked at just the right time.

The open-weight doubles faced very strong competition on both the men's and women's side.  Jake Martens and Forrest Compton posted faster times then the previous year in the event but racing was very fast.  They finished a strong 10th place overall.  On the women's side Sara Hyten and Caroline Allan had trouble with the weather and did not have the opportunity to race the repechage which would have given them the opportunity to race in a higher final.  They handled the challenges of multiple rain delays and finished 2nd in the 3rd final for an overall finish of 14th in the nation.
